A Blast from the Past - Santa Clarita's Soroptomist International Auction
Hello to All,
I’d like to let everyone know about a recent event that was near and dear to my heart specifically, and to all of the women here at Valencia Acura. I’m speaking of Santa Clarita’s Soroptimist Auction on March 25th. Anyone that was there knows what a good time this was, and what a good cause this was, but for those of you not familiar with the Soroptimist’s, let me fill you in. Soroptimist in Latin means: ‘Best for women.’ The Soroptimist organization was founded in Oakland in 1921 for the betterment of women. Think about that. This club was founded in a day and age when women just received the right to VOTE! I’m so very proud of to be a long-time member of Soroptomist International, and, in fact, am the Governor Elect of in the Camino Real Region that oversees all the Southern California clubs.
Back to the auction – this year it featured a 30 item live auction as well as a wonderful silent auction, raising thousand of dollars. The theme was “Flashback to the 60’s”, and it was a real blast from the past! There were countless people dressed up like mods and hippies, from Jackie Onassis look alikes to Nancy Sinatra doubles to afro “dos” and flower children. (I wore the cutest little black and white miniskirt number, complete with cap and go-go boots!) We had a ball and once again, I bid and won the head table for next year’s auction—it’s such a joy to give to this great cause. I have chaired this event in the past, but just enjoyed my time as a volunteer this year. If you missed it this year, try to make it next!
All the best,
Cheri
The annual Valencia Arthritis walk is here again, coming to Bridgeport Park April 29th. We need walkers! Please join our team for a great day, or simply donate to help. Everybody knows someone that suffers from Arthritis, and your participation can make a difference in their lives.
